ActivationPal: a Mixpanel alternative for iOS and Android apps
ActivationPal ships one fixed funnel: installed, your onboarding steps, onboarding completed, paywall shown, plan selected, purchased. Each stage counts unique devices from the period's installs, as a count and a share of installs, with drop-off between stages.
Setup is short. Add the SDK, call onboardingStep with an index and id on each screen, and call onboardingCompleted at the end. The Quickstart walks through it.
Revenue arrives by webhook from RevenueCat or Superwall. Subscription analytics split it into new subscriptions, renewals and one-time purchases, and show trial outcomes (converted, pending, churned), refund rate and a gross or net view.
Every plan includes unlimited apps and members, with all apps sharing one event allowance. The same numbers are available to AI agents over MCP and a REST API, described in the Agent API docs.
The limits: no funnels built from custom events (custom events show as counts and unique devices), no web or SaaS tracking, no session replay and no experiments.
Other Mixpanel alternatives
Amplitude
Amplitude has a Free plan with 2M events a month. Plus starts at $0 with the first 2M events a month free and scales to 70M events; Growth and Enterprise are custom. All plans include unlimited team members, analytics, session replay, experimentation, guides and surveys. Its SDKs cover Browser, Android, iOS (Swift), React Native, Flutter, Unity, Unreal and several server languages. It suits teams that want one platform for web and mobile.
PostHog
PostHog gives 1M analytics events, 5K session recordings and 1M feature flag requests free every month, then bills each product by usage with limits you set. The free plan has 1 project and 1-year retention; pay as you go has 6 projects and 7-year retention. It has an MIT-licensed open source product, and its libraries include JavaScript web, Android, iOS, Flutter and React Native. It suits teams that want usage billing or open source.
Firebase (Google Analytics)
Google Analytics for Firebase is available at no charge, with unlimited reporting on up to 500 distinct events. The SDK captures a number of events automatically and supports custom events and audiences. You can link the data to BigQuery for custom analysis, and it works with Crashlytics, FCM and Remote Config. It suits apps already built on Firebase.
When to stay with Mixpanel
Mixpanel's pricing page lists insights, funnels, retention and flows reports, web and mobile analytics, web and mobile session replay, experiments, feature flags and an MCP server. Seats are unlimited and the free plan runs up to 1M events a month.
Stay if you track a web product, need custom funnels across any events, or use replay and experiments.
How to choose
- If you run a mobile app and your question is onboarding to paywall to purchase, with RevenueCat or Superwall revenue, choose ActivationPal.
- If you track a web product or need custom funnels, choose Mixpanel or Amplitude.
- If you want open source or per-product usage billing, choose PostHog.
- If you are already on Firebase and want no-charge analytics with BigQuery export, choose Firebase.
- If you run several apps in one account without per-app fees, choose ActivationPal.
How to switch from Mixpanel to ActivationPal
- List your onboarding screens in order.
- Add the SDK for Native Swift, Native Android, Flutter or React Native / Expo. Start with the Quickstart, or open the Android, Flutter or React Native guide.
- Call
onboardingStep on each screen and onboardingCompleted at the end.
- Connect one revenue source: the RevenueCat webhook or the Superwall webhook. Pass the same user id your revenue provider uses to the SDK. If Superwall shows paywalls and RevenueCat handles purchases, connect RevenueCat only.
- Compare the first week's install-to-purchase funnel with your Mixpanel funnel before removing the old SDK.
