ActivationPal: mobile funnels and revenue events

ActivationPal measures one thing: how installs turn into paying users in a mobile app. The funnel is fixed. It starts at installed, runs through your onboarding steps to completed, then paywall shown, plan selected and purchased. Every stage counts unique devices from the same install cohort.

Setup is three steps:

  1. Add the SDK for Native Swift, Native Android, Flutter or React Native / Expo. The quickstart covers it.
  2. Call onboardingStep on each onboarding screen and onboardingCompleted at the end, then the paywall helpers. The event list has every call.
  3. Connect a RevenueCat or Superwall webhook. Purchases, trials, renewals and cancellations arrive server-side.

Revenue is split into new subscriptions, renewals and one-time purchases, and trials are followed to converted, pending or churned. See subscription analytics. Connect Apple Search Ads and spend, installs and CPI sit next to the funnel. The same numbers are available to AI agents over MCP and a REST API.

What it does not do: session replay, feature flags, experiments, web analytics, custom funnels or self-hosting. Data is stored in the United States with no region selector.

Other PostHog alternatives

Mixpanel

Mixpanel is a product analytics platform for web and mobile. Its pricing page lists a Free plan with up to 1M events a month, 10K session replays a month, up to 10 active feature flags, and funnels and retention analysis. Growth starts at $0 with the first 1M events free and goes up to 20M events a month. Enterprise is by quote. It fits teams that want general product reports with replay and flags in the same tool.

Amplitude

Amplitude bundles analytics, session replay, experimentation, and guides and surveys, with unlimited seats on every plan. Its pricing page lists a Free plan with 2M events a month and 10K monthly session replays, for web and mobile. Plus keeps the first 2M events free and scales to 70M. Growth and Enterprise are custom priced. An EU data center option is included on every plan.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Google Analytics for Firebase is an app measurement product with no cost and unlimited reporting on up to 500 distinct events. It covers iOS, Android, web, C++ and Unity, reports in-app purchase data, and adds AdMob revenue when you link AdMob. A/B tests run through Firebase Remote Config, and raw events export to BigQuery. It fits apps already built on Firebase or advertising through Google Ads.

When to stay with PostHog

Stay with PostHog when you need more than conversion reporting. PostHog puts product analytics, session replay, error tracking, feature flags, experiments, surveys and a data warehouse in one product, and lists SDKs for iOS, Android, Flutter and React Native alongside web and server libraries.

Its pricing is usage-based: 1M analytics events, 5K session recordings and 1M feature flag requests are free every month, and you can set a billing limit per product. Cloud hosting is offered in the US (Virginia) or the EU (Frankfurt), and PostHog states it also has an MIT-licensed open source product.

How to choose a PostHog alternative for mobile apps

Start from what you need, one requirement at a time:

  • Mobile funnel from install to purchase: ActivationPal. The funnel is fixed, so there is nothing to build and nothing to customise.
  • Subscription revenue events: ActivationPal, if purchases run through RevenueCat or Superwall. Firebase, if in-app purchase data and AdMob revenue are enough.
  • Session replay: PostHog, Mixpanel or Amplitude. ActivationPal has none.
  • Experiments and feature flags: PostHog, Mixpanel or Amplitude, or Firebase through Remote Config. ActivationPal has none.
  • EU hosting or self-hosting: PostHog offers an EU cloud and an open source product. Amplitude lists an EU data center option. ActivationPal stores data in the United States.
  • Web and mobile in one tool: PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude or Firebase. ActivationPal is mobile only.

Replay and experimentation are separate needs from conversion reporting, so decide them separately. ActivationPal covers the install-to-purchase numbers and nothing else. To check a funnel before installing anything, put your step counts into the funnel calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best PostHog alternative for mobile apps?

It depends on what you used PostHog for. For onboarding, paywall and subscription conversion in a mobile app, ActivationPal reports those without any report building. For replay, flags and experiments across mobile and web, Mixpanel and Amplitude are the closest in scope.

Is there a free PostHog alternative?

Google Analytics for Firebase has no cost. Mixpanel's Free plan covers up to 1M events a month and Amplitude's covers 2M. ActivationPal's first 10,000 events are free.

Does ActivationPal have session replay or feature flags?

No. ActivationPal reports installs, onboarding steps, paywall events, purchases and subscription revenue. Teams that need replay, flags or experiments should pick PostHog, Mixpanel or Amplitude for those.

Can ActivationPal be self-hosted?

No. It is a hosted service with data stored in the United States and no region selector. Of the products on this page, PostHog is the one that states an EU cloud and an MIT-licensed open source product.

Which mobile frameworks does ActivationPal support?

Native Swift, Native Android, Flutter and React Native / Expo. iOS and Android apps can be tracked in the same account, and revenue arrives through RevenueCat or Superwall webhooks.
