ActivationPal is the Firebase Analytics alternative for mobile apps that need onboarding, paywall and RevenueCat or Superwall funnels. Mixpanel, Amplitude and PostHog suit general product analytics. ActivationPal publishes this page and makes the first product listed.

What Firebase Analytics covers
The Firebase SDK captures a number of events and user properties automatically and supports custom events. Audiences are defined in the console from device data, custom events or user properties, and Analytics links to BigQuery for custom analysis. Data appears in the console within hours.
The Firebase pages used for this comparison do not describe funnel reports or a RevenueCat or Superwall connection, so check the console docs for funnels before you rely on them.
Stay on Firebase if the app is already on it and you need no-cost, general measurement.
ActivationPal: funnels from onboarding to revenue
ActivationPal uses fixed event names, so there is nothing to register and no charts to build. Setup on iOS, from the quickstart:
- Add the app in the dashboard to get its slug and
ap_pk key, then add the SDK. Native Swift is one file for iOS 15+ with no dependencies. Native Android is one Kotlin file for Android 5.0+.
- Call
ActivationPal.configure(app:key:userId:) at launch. It sends first_open and app_open automatically.
- Call
onboardingStep on each onboarding screen, then onboardingCompleted.
- Call
paywallShown, paywallPlanSelected, paywallPurchased and paywallDismissed around the paywall.
- Connect RevenueCat with an HMAC-signed webhook, or Superwall with a Svix-signed webhook. Purchases, trials, renewals and churn arrive as
rc_* events and join the funnel by user id.
ActivationPal.configure(app: "myapp", key: "ap_pk_YOUR_KEY", userId: Purchases.shared.appUserID)
ActivationPal.onboardingStep(0, id: "goal", answer: "lose_weight")
ActivationPal.onboardingStep(1, id: "notifications")
ActivationPal.onboardingCompleted()
ActivationPal.paywallShown("onboarding")
ActivationPal.paywallPlanSelected("yearly")
ActivationPal.paywallPurchased("yearly")
Install-cohort funnels count unique devices, so no stage exceeds 100% of installs.
The same event names work on Android, Flutter and React Native. iOS analytics covers the Swift SDK, subscription analytics covers the revenue side, and the homepage shows the dashboard.
ActivationPal covers mobile apps only. It has no web analytics, experimentation or session replay. Data is stored in the United States with no region selector, as the privacy and security docs explain.
Firebase alternative for React Native and Expo
React Native Firebase needs @react-native-firebase/app first, then @react-native-firebase/analytics, then pod install for iOS. The New Architecture is required from v26. Custom events go through logEvent:
import { getAnalytics, logEvent } from '@react-native-firebase/analytics';
await logEvent(getAnalytics(), 'onboarding_step', { step: 0, id: 'goal' });
The usage guide warns that parameters are not validated, and incorrect ones silently fail to log. Reserved names such as first_open and session_start throw if used as custom events. On iOS, avoiding IDFA use takes a Podfile flag.
ActivationPal installs with npx expo install https://activationpal.com/sdk/activationpal-react-native-1.0.2.tgz @react-native-async-storage/async-storage expo-application expo-device expo-localization. Configure it before the app renders, with the RevenueCat user id when you use RevenueCat:
import ActivationPal from 'activationpal-react-native';
const userId = await Purchases.getAppUserID();
await ActivationPal.configure({ app: 'myapp', key: 'ap_pk_YOUR_KEY', userId });
ActivationPal.onboardingStep(0, 'goal', 'lose_weight');
ActivationPal.onboardingCompleted();
ActivationPal.paywallShown('onboarding');
ActivationPal.paywallPurchased('yearly');
The package supports iOS and Android, buffers up to 500 events, retries failed delivery and never blocks the UI. Expo Go cannot include third-party native modules, so test on a development or release build. The full steps are in the React Native docs, and React Native analytics covers the use case.
Mixpanel
Mixpanel is strong where you want named events with funnels, retention and flows reports. The free plan includes funnels and retention analysis, unlimited seats, 5 saved reports per seat and up to 10 active feature flags. The pricing page lists a Flutter SDK. It states no RevenueCat or Superwall connection, so purchases arrive as events you send or load yourself.
Amplitude
Amplitude puts analytics, Session Replay and experimentation on one platform. The free plan covers 2M events a month, and Session Replay is listed for web and mobile. Custom events and formulas and behavioral cohorts are not on Free. Plus allows 20 behavioral cohorts and requires a credit card. The pricing page states no RevenueCat or Superwall connection.
PostHog
PostHog bills each product on usage, with a free monthly allowance and a billing limit per product. Past the limit on the free plan, events are dropped, and events are kept for 1 year. It also offers an MIT-licensed open source product. The pricing page does not state mobile SDKs or a RevenueCat or Superwall connection, so check the vendor docs.
Cost compared
- ActivationPal: 10k events in total free, then $9, $19 or $29 a month for 50k, 250k or 1M events. See pricing.
- Firebase: Analytics is no-cost on the Spark plan, with reporting on up to 500 distinct events.
- Mixpanel: the first 1M events a month are free, up to 20M a month on Growth.
- Amplitude: the first 2M events a month are free on Plus, up to 70M events.
- PostHog: 1M events a month are free, then pay as you go.
The units differ: distinct event names for Firebase, events for Mixpanel, Amplitude and ActivationPal, and product usage for PostHog.
