ActivationPal

Amplitude alternatives for mobile apps

ActivationPal is the Amplitude alternative for iOS and Android teams that mainly need onboarding, paywall and RevenueCat or Superwall revenue reporting. This site makes ActivationPal. Three other options follow, each with a source, plus the cases where Amplitude is still the better choice.

What we compared

Four things decide whether an Amplitude replacement works for a mobile app: how you instrument events, what you get for onboarding and paywall reporting, how subscription data gets in, and what it costs.

Amplitude is the reference point. Its pricing page lists analytics, session replay and experimentation on every plan, and its iOS Swift SDK can autocapture sessions, screen views and network requests.

ActivationPal

ActivationPal measures one thing: how installs become subscribers in a mobile app. It is not a general product analytics tool, and that narrower scope is the reason to pick it over Amplitude.

SDKs. Native Swift is one file for iOS 15+. Native Android is one Kotlin file for Android 5.0+. Flutter installs with flutter pub add activationpal, and there are Flutter and React Native / Expo guides. Five calls cover the funnel:

ActivationPal.configure(app: "myapp", key: "ap_pk_YOUR_KEY", userId: Purchases.shared.appUserID)
ActivationPal.onboardingStep(0, id: "goal", answer: "lose_weight")
ActivationPal.onboardingCompleted()
ActivationPal.paywallShown("onboarding")
ActivationPal.paywallPurchased("yearly")

The funnel is fixed. Installed, onboarding steps, completed, paywall shown, plan selected, purchased. Every stage is measured against the install cohort, so there is nothing to build in a chart editor. The onboarding funnel page shows what the dashboard reports.

Revenue. Subscription data arrives from a RevenueCat webhook (HMAC signed) or a Superwall webhook (Svix signed). Trials, renewals, cancellations and refunds then sit next to the in-app events. See subscription analytics. Each app has one revenue source.

Limits. Mobile only, no web. No custom funnels, no experimentation and no session replay. Custom events are recorded alongside the fixed ones. The same numbers are available to coding agents through a REST API, MCP and a CLI.

Amplitude alternative for Android

The Android SDK is a single Kotlin file with no library dependencies. It buffers up to 500 events on the device and retries failed delivery. trackFromWear files events from a Wear OS app under their own device. Android does not send Apple attribution, so Android installs and revenue stay unattributed in the acquisition view instead of being counted as organic iOS. The Android guide has the setup.

Amplitude alternative with RevenueCat

Pass the RevenueCat app user id to configure, as in the snippet above, and each purchase lands on the timeline of the device that made it. Then create the webhook in RevenueCat and paste its signing secret into ActivationPal. The RevenueCat guide has the steps, and the Superwall guide covers apps whose revenue provider is Superwall. For a first look at the product, see the homepage.

Other Amplitude alternatives

PostHog

PostHog has an iOS SDK (Swift Package Manager or CocoaPods) and an Android SDK (Gradle). Its iOS docs list session replay, feature flags, experiments and surveys. RevenueCat can send subscription events to PostHog, matched through the $posthogUserId attribute or the RevenueCat app user id.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Google Analytics for Firebase states that there is no cost to use it. It reports on up to 500 distinct events, covers iOS and Android, exports raw data to BigQuery and links to AdMob. It is the pick when the budget is zero and you need basic usage and ad attribution rather than funnel depth.

RevenueCat

RevenueCat is about subscriptions rather than in-app behavior. Its pricing page lists a dashboard with 40+ metrics, paywall A/B testing, no charge up to $2,500 in monthly tracked revenue and 1% after that. It suits teams whose question is revenue, and it also supplies the subscription data ActivationPal reads.

Amplitude alternative costs

Prices read on 2026-10-19. The monthly active users column uses ActivationPal's own figure of about 25 events per user per month for typical tracking, so it is an assumption, not a vendor number.

Events per monthMonthly active usersActivationPalAmplitude FreeFirebaseRevenueCat
50kabout 2,000Starter, $9 per month$0$0Free below $2,500 monthly tracked revenue
250kabout 10,000Pro, $19 per month$0$0Free below $2,500 monthly tracked revenue
1Mabout 40,000Scale, $29 per month$0$0Free below $2,500 monthly tracked revenue

Below 2M events per month, Amplitude Free costs nothing, so the case for switching is scope, not price. The Amplitude pricing page does not state what Plus costs beyond the first 2M events. RevenueCat charges 1% of monthly tracked revenue above $2,500, so its cost follows revenue, not events.

History differs too. ActivationPal lists a 2-year history on paid plans, and Amplitude Free lists 1 year of data access.

How to choose

  • Stay with Amplitude if you analyze web and mobile together, build custom funnels, run experiments, use session replay, or have more than 2M events a month that you want to keep on a free plan.
  • Pick ActivationPal if your questions are onboarding drop-off, paywall conversion and subscription revenue for a mobile app with RevenueCat or Superwall. Check the plans and the quickstart first.
  • Pick PostHog for product analytics with feature flags and session replay.
  • Pick Firebase for free basic analytics and ad attribution.
  • Pick RevenueCat when subscriptions are the whole question.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Amplitude alternative for Android?

ActivationPal has a native Kotlin SDK for Android 5.0+ that reports onboarding, paywall and subscription conversion. PostHog and Google Analytics for Firebase also have Android SDKs and cover broader product analytics. Pick by the question you need answered, not by platform.

Is there an Amplitude alternative that works with RevenueCat?

Yes. ActivationPal reads RevenueCat through a signed webhook and joins revenue to the device timeline with the RevenueCat app user id. PostHog also receives RevenueCat events through RevenueCat's own integration.

What is the cheapest Amplitude alternative?

Google Analytics for Firebase states that it has no cost. Amplitude Free is also $0 up to 2M events per month. ActivationPal starts at $9 per month for 50k events.

Can ActivationPal replace Amplitude?

For mobile onboarding, paywall and subscription reporting, yes. It does not cover web analytics, custom funnels, experimentation or session replay, so teams that depend on those should keep Amplitude.

How is ActivationPal's funnel different from Amplitude's?

ActivationPal ships one fixed funnel from install to purchase, measured against the install cohort, so there is nothing to configure. Amplitude lets you define funnels from your own events, which is more flexible and takes more setup.
